It cannot be understated on how rare this coin is for a few different reasons. First, the 1870 is the 5th rarest of all Indian Head Cents because of its very low mintage of just 5.2 million, which is next to nothing as far as minting cents goes. Second, the coin gets even more rare the higher you go in grade, and the value of it increases exponentially as the grade does. For this coin to come in at MS-63 RB, that is over the moon as far as rarity.
It is so rare, in fact, that NGC has only graded a mere 45 coins to this grade--and this is one of them! And only 307 total coins has achieved a grade higher than this coin. THAT'S how rare this coin is! And lastly, there were two different varieties minted in 1870: the "Shallow N" and the "Bold N".
This refers to the style of the "N" in the "One Cent" on the reverse. This one is the "Shallow N" variety which is the more rare and valuable of the two. As you can see from the pics the coin is in stellar condition. It has a nice copper-red patina to it which is what earned its RB grade designation.
All details on the coin just pop. And with it already graded by NGC you know you're getting a top shelf coin. This is an incredibly rare investment coin that would be the centerpiece of any collection.
